Yamaha issues Two Recalls for Fuel Systems for Newer Models

 Thursday, November 10, 2011

The Attorneys at Leopold-Kuvin wishes you a happy, safe Veteran's day weekend. That being said, there are two new recalls out this week. If you own any motorcycle affected by these recalls, please take them in as soon as possible to get them repaired.

Yamaha has issued 2 separate recalls due to defects affecting the fuel systems in some newer model motorcycles.

RECALL 1:  Certain 2012 XTZ12B/BC (Super Tenere) motorcycles manufactured from June 01, 2011, through August 31, 2011 were recalled due to a defect in the fuel pump assembly.  The defect affects the O-Ring seal, and could allow fuel to leak from around the fuel pump mounted under the fuel tank posing a fire hazard and increasing the risk of a fuel fed fire.

The recall is expected to begin in November 2011 and dealers will inspect the bikes and perform the necessary service free of charge.  Owners may contact Yamaha directly at 1-800-962-7926. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V532000.

RECALL 2:  Certain 2009-2012 XVS95/CT (V STAR 950/V STAR 950 TOURER) motorcycles manufactured from October 2008 through August 2011, and 2007 XVS1300/CT (V STAR 1300/V STAR TOURER) motorcycles, manufactured from August 2006 through March 2007 were recalled due to a defective fuel hose.  There may not be a proper seal between the fuel pipes for the fuel injectors and the fuel hose that connects them due to an improperly molded fuel hose. Over time, pressurized fuel can begin leaking at the hose connection points, which could result in a fire hazard.

The recall is expected to begin on or before November 11, 2011 and dealers will inspect the bikes and perform the necessary service free of charge.  Owners may contact Yamaha directly at 1-800-962-7926. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V533000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov, with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
